Month-Long 500 Festivities for All

The OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini- Marathon, also affectionately known as The Mini, returns for its 42nd year on May 5. It’s the nation’s largest half-marathon, the seventh-largest road race in the U.S. and the 18th largest worldwide. The event has sold out with more than 30,000 participants in more than a decade.

The race begins with the Finish Line 500 Festival 5K at 7:30 a.m. and starts in the heart of downtown. The 13.1-mile course starts near the intersection of Washington and West streets. The route heads west along Michigan Street and does a complete lap around the 2.5-mile track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway before heading back down New York Street to the finish line.

The Mini kicks off the 500 Festival, a series of events leading up to the iconic Indianapolis 500, long regaled as the world’s largest single-day sporting event at the world’s largest sporting facility. The mission of the 500 Festival is to produce lifeenriching events and programs while celebrating the spirit and legacy of the Indianapolis 500, and fostering positive impact on the city of Indianapolis and Indiana.

Other events include the Chase 500 Festival Kids’ Day and Rookie Run on May 12, Breakfast at the Brickyard on May 19 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., the American Family Insurance 500 Festival Community Day on May 23, the 500 Festival Memorial Service on May 25, the Key Bank 500 Festival Snakepit Ball on May 26, and the IPL 500 Festival Parade also on May 26.
