Big Green Announces Plant a Seed Day 2019
Indianapolis-area residents are invited to take part in the first annual Plant a Seed Day on March 20. The national campaign was created to promote a simple action among teachers, students and their families intended to create change for future generations —to literally plant 1 million seeds.
According to the program’s website, “To plant a seed is to plant hope, to make an investment in the future and to show kids that growing healthy, real food is a powerful act.”
Founded by Kimbal Musk and Hugo Matheson in 2011, Big Green is a nonprofit organization that focuses on building a better future for our children through promoting food literacy programs and the establishment of a nationwide network of Learning Gardens.
Locally, Paramount School of Excellence is one of several in the area that’s incorporating Learning Gardens into their curriculum. The school’s farm is the site for hands-on visual learning for students and is an important tool for teachers in supporting the message of healthy nutrition and wellness.
