Indianapolis Library’s Michigan Road Branch Opens
The Indianapolis Public Library celebrated the opening of its Michigan Road branch on December 15. Showcasing the city’s newest library, festivities included guided tours, music and activities for all ages.
Identified as a facility to fill a large geographical service gap on the near-northwest side of Indianapolis, the 20,000-square-foot branch offers area residents greater access to library services and collections. It’ll offer new and engaging spaces for children, teens and adults, computers with free Internet access and meeting rooms available for public use.
The new library achieved the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification in recognition of their sustainability initiatives. The building features natural lighting and the use of vertical blinds powered independently based on the amount of light coming in. Sixteen tables in various public reading areas were designed and fabricated by Indy Urban Hardwood from trees harvested from the 4.5-acre site. Also, recycling containers are available for patrons and staff.
